The structure, timing, module-adaptive logic, and the foundations of an effective preparation plan for College Board's Digital SAT.
Quick answer: what is the Digital SAT?
The Digital SAT is the computer-based, module-adaptive SAT, taken inside Bluebook. It has two sections (Reading and Writing + Math), each with two modules; the second module's difficulty is determined by performance on the first. Total scores range from 400 to 1600 in whole numbers.
Sections and modules
Reading and Writing
- Modules: 2 modules
- Duration: 32 + 32 minutes
- Questions: ~54 questions total
Module 2 difficulty is adaptive based on Module 1 performance.
Math
- Modules: 2 modules
- Duration: 35 + 35 minutes
- Questions: ~44 questions total
Embedded Desmos calculator is available in both modules.

About the Digital SAT
What is the Digital SAT?
The Digital SAT is College Board's computer-based, module-adaptive version of the SAT, taken inside the Bluebook app. It has two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math.
How long is the test?
Reading and Writing has two modules of 32+32=64 minutes; Math has two modules of 35+35=70 minutes. Total test time is around 2 hours 14 minutes plus a short break between sections.
What does module-adaptive mean?
Performance on each section's first module determines the difficulty (easier or harder) of the second module. To reach top scores, students must trigger the harder Module 2.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes. Both Math modules include the embedded Desmos calculator inside Bluebook. Students may also bring their own approved calculator.
How do I prepare for the Digital SAT?
Effective prep means working inside the Bluebook format, understanding module-adaptive logic, building structured Math and R&W content, and taking and analyzing full-length practice tests at regular intervals.
